INSET Packages

School-based INSET packages

Meeting your specific needs and priorities is at the heart of the Primary English Education. Whilst we have a number of standard INSET packages, we always adapt and tailor these to the unique circumstances of your school or setting. Whether you want a whole school INSET day or an after school staff meeting we can create a package that meets your school needs. Some of our most requested packages include:

  • Designing a book-based curriculum;

  • Teaching spoken language/oracy in the primary years

  • Teaching Greater Depth;

  • Using children’s texts to apply grammar;

  • Teaching vocabulary in KS1 and KS2;

  • Writing – including modelled, shared and guided writing;

  • Writing – editing and improving children’s writing;

  • Reading – improving comprehension, and teaching inference and deduction.

TSAs, networks and more

We provide training for Teaching School Alliances across the country. Our training helps TSAs meet their statutory training aims with the peace of mind that the training will be high quality, professional and not detract from the work of SLAs and leading teachers.

Online training

We are able to offer INSET via our own Zoom account or as the host on your own conferencing software. Just contact us for further details.

Courses

Online courses

Each term we offer a range of webinar training designed to meet the need of trainees, NQTs, support staff, teachers and English subject leaders. These courses are exceptional value for money and enable us to work with education professionals across the UK and beyond.

Our Summer 2024 programme includes:

  • 4th June - English Subject Leaders

Face-to-face courses

We specialise in high-quality face to face training. Each term we run English Subject Leader Network meetings for a number of our partner TSAs and also at our favourite Warwickshire training venue, The Saxon Mill. Our 2023/2024 Coventry and Warwickshire events will be held on the following dates:

  • English Subject Leaders - 18th October 2023

  • English Subject Leaders - 7th February 2024

  • English Subject Leaders - 5th June 2024 (new venue just announced)

Visit our Eventbrite page for booking and discounts.

Conferences

At Primary English we appreciate how much education professionals enjoy getting out of school to learn with colleagues from other settings. From time to time, we’re asked to present at education conferences and of course, we jump at the chance.

Upcoming conferences

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, all our forthcoming conference appearances have been postponed.

Previous Conferences

Content Creation

There’s nothing more fun than creating a lovely teaching resource. Here at Primary English we try to make resources that are practical, enjoyable and will help you raise standards. With over 28 years experience in education and considerable experience writing for publishers including Harper Collins Children’s, Collins, Keen Kite, Letts, TTS, Findel and Teach Primary Magazine we’re confident that our content is not only creative but also meets high editorial and educational standards.

Writing & Editorial

Transforming a blank page into an article or teacher resource book is so rewarding. Our director, Rachel Clarke, makes regular contributions to Teach Primary and Teach Reading and Writing magazines as well as writing informative and entertaining blog posts here on the Primary English website. She also likes to turn her hand to technical reading, which she does for Scholastic UK on their splendid Reading Audit and from time to time for Collins education.

Rachel’s publications

  • Assess Fluency in Reading: Reception to Year 6 published by Collins

  • Reading Detectives published by Keen Kite

  • Spelling Rules! published by Keen Kite

  • Writing Mechanics published by Keen Kite

  • Wicked Wording published by Keen Kite

  • Big Cat KS2 Handbook published by Collins

  • 10 minute Reading Comprehension published by Letts

  • Grammar Progress Tests published by Collins
